Soon You Will Be Running Android On Your PCs

 

In an exclusive interview with Muktware, Greg-KH one of the leading figures of the Linux world, told us “The 3.3 kernel release will let you boot an Android userspace with no modifications, but not very good power management. The 3.4 kernel release will hopefully have the power management hooks that Android needs in it, along with a few other minor missing infrastructure pieces that didn’t make it into the 3.3 kernel release.”

Google will finally wash the last remaining stain from their linen as they bring back the Android kernel to the mainline Linux kernel.

I had a discussion with Linus Torvalds about Android, he told me, “Every time there is a fork, and I think actually forks are good things, it means somebody sees a need and a technical reason to do something different from the standard kernel. But most forks are failures. They find that the things they needed were not actually worth doing and as a result most forks die. Some forks are successful — Google with Android has really been very successful. Now, we are talking about how to say ‘Hey you were right, we were wrong, you were successful doing something right’. We are talking about how to merge the good parts.”

The plan to merge the Android kernel was in progress for a while and with 3.3 version of Linux, one will be able to boot into Android on supported hardware. What it means is that soon there will be netbooks and laptops running Android. The way Android app ecosystem has grown, I think there is huge potential for Android to create a decent market in the desktop segment.

However, the fact remains that the desktop is a complicated market, people do a lot of things on Desktop and Android may not cut it for everyone.

A curious mind may ask will Android dominate the desktop as well?
